The NT1 is the Network Termination unit for 
the ISDN basic access. It is the link between 
the subscriber line (U interface) and the user 
interface to the network (S/T interface). 
A maxi mum of 8 terminals unit can be 
connected to the S/T interface. The ISDN basic 
offers the subscriber the possibility of access
to two independent basic channels each with 
64 Kbps which can be used simultaneous by 
the terminals connected to S/T for any two 
ISDN services. Two services (e.g telephony 
and data transmission ) can be used simul-
 taneously by different terminal units. The 
associated signalling is performed in the 
16-Kbps D-channel. This results in a total 
transmittion speed of 144 Kbps for both the
transmitt the recieve direction.The NT1 is the 
transparent link between the S/T interface 
and the U interface
